At home with Anahita Rigby

At home with Anahita Rigby

Anahita is an architectural and interior designer with a philosophy to create beautiful, livable, and personal spaces. She tells us about her personal style and how she sources antiques.

How would you describe your interiors style?

My interiors style is forever evolving, and as a result I would describe my style as eclectic. I am a bit of a classicist at heart and have managed to bring back a Shanghainese console table from my time in Hong Kong and a set of antique Japanese dining chairs, which took up quite a lot of space in our old Hong Kong apartment. I have a lot of antique furniture which I cherish and love mixing them up with fun fabrics and rugs.

How do you use antiques in your projects?

If I have a client that is open to using antiques, I will try my best to source key pieces for them. These pieces usually include dining tables, chairs that I often have reupholstered to breathe new life into them, bedside tables and rugs. I love mixing up different pieces from different regions and periods of time. I’ve sourced antiques from all over the world and my eyes are always peeled for the next piece.

What do you love most about sourcing antiques?

Just about everything! I love hunting for the perfect item, it can be incredibly rewarding. I love learning about each piece, it’s history, where it’s been, and what it’s seen. I have a real thirst for knowledge so when I find something I love that I know very little about I tend to do a bit of a deep dive to learn as much as I can. I love interactions with antique dealers, they are often some of the most interesting people full of stories and adventures.

What does home mean to you?

Home is the place you look forward to going back to. Home is the place where you wake up on a Saturday morning and feel at peace, where you walk around and feel comforted by the things you’ve picked up from your various adventures. Home is the place where it’s ok to spill a drink when you’re pouring one for yourself and a friend after a long dinner party. Home is where the pets are. Home is where life happens.
